Shopping in China is becoming more convenient. You should
be able to find your brand of daily necessities in most
department stores and shopping malls. In major cities, you
will find western retail stores that carry domestic and
imported goods.
For souvenirs, you can shop at department stores and
shopping malls, or at open air markets such as Xiushui
Street, Silk Street Hongqiao Market, and Panjayuan Antique
Market which are in Beijing. The prices are fixed at
department stores and shopping malls, but you will be able
to bargain at the open air markets. If you have a tour guide
or host, they should be able to help you find authentic
items and bargain for a good price.
Most good that are used on a daily basis are inexpensive in
China. CD’s, electronics and books can be purchased in many
stores. Unless you are expert, we advise that you buy
expensive items such as antiques, arts, jewelry, etc., at
government owned shops. |
